Tuesday 8pm Beckenham class schedule/Wed Blackfriars
Ringen: to warm in: arm bars and leg throws.
Sword and buckler: flow drills, concentrating on doing and allowing the body to move around the sword.
As last night: 3's half and enter, the ordinary v/s stab knock, the bind, then similar for 2nd ward.
Longsword: parrying and counter winds, one thing I have noticed is people hitting to the sword to prevent the follow on move, allow the follow on move, that's how you learn to prevent it...if you prevent it before it's done, they will do something else.

Tues 22nd-wed 23rd Class updates...
P's second lesson and showing promise. Cover that sword hand though. |
Continuing with the sword and buckler and longsword on these days.
Longsword: The focus will be on parries, winding and entry with the zwerch.
Sword and buckler: Cutting progressions, then half shield and enter, the falling under, the ordinary attack, stab knock, and the bind and enter.
A lot of good effort so far this week chaps, keep it up.
Thanks for all your positive feedback about the Rawlings Proline Extreme prototypes, we've had opinions from all the classes that have tried them, once I have collated the feedback from all the classes I will pass it back to the Knight-Shop folks.

Tonight's Training
Monday night at the Barbican:
Two things tonight, Lots of sword and Buckler, again working on the falling under, the stab knock and the bind. Working through the logics of the system.
Also, for those that haven't had a go, a chance to have a go on the Rawlings Pro Line Extreme prototype blades, a chance to spar with both single and long swords, so far I have to say we've all been very impressed.
Insurance:
Most of you are paid up and insured now, some of you are not...sort that out asap please.

14th March onwards training schedule,
Sword and Buckler this week: heavy emphasis on the mechanics of the stab knock, over the next couple of weeks we'll be working through to the nodding (nucken) lots of theory and slow work until you've got it right. Great work from the Barbican and Beckenham classes all ready, I'll look forward to seeing how the rest of you get on.
Also Thanks to John, Lucy and Toby for the awesome work you all put in on Monday. The rest of you will find out about the results...soon

Well done
. |
From there we repeated the straight line assaults with the rapier and then straight in to sparring.
Sparring
The thing that made this better last night chaps was the fact that over half the class had fencing jackets, that meant we could fight properly with the steels. It was still good work with the synthetics BUT remember that you will not be allowed to spar steel (particularly Rapier) without adequate protection . AND jackets with breaches are uniform. Again very well done, a particular pleasure to be able to free play some of the Thibault work. Mike, put ice on it and stop setting aside too much ;)
Train hard. Dave

Training schedule w/c 7th march
Most classes this week:
Rapier: again working against attacks on the straight line
Ringen: wrist controls and disengages leading to a leg throw, "over the back" and arm bar.
Longsword: again coming to the bind and the three way drill (we will be expanding on this this week).
Sword and buckler: controlled coached sparring.
Another reminder that you need to get your insurance money in. If i have it already, I'll need your details. see you there, train hard, Dave

Insurance.
All insurance is due to be updated chaps. Some of you have given me payment and details already the rest of you, asap please.
Training Update 1st Feb onwards
Sorry for the late update, internet troubles, however
All this week and in every class.
Simple standing ringen to warm up.
Rapier: working against attacks in the straight line and subjections both inside and out paying lots of attention to sentiment.
Longword: coming to the bind and fuhlen.
As you can see we are having a week off messer and sword/buckler. This is so that we can focus on the pressure work and intention (fuhlen in longsword sentiment in rapier), using tactile awareness to dictate our entry against the opponent. The wresting (ringen) work is a simple standing arm disengage and arm bar on either side, building the framework for further unarmed techniques later.
