Longsword: sparring.

Tuesday 28th June, Beckenham class.


Longsword: Parter and entry to the throw. 3 throws.
Rapier: Inner and outer subjections with cuts beneath the blade.
Sword and Buckler: more on entering with crutch.
Again working on pauses and the separate actions of hand and foot.

Monday Barbican class

Longsword: inversion throws. Rapier, entering to grip. Sword & Buckler: more work on the crutch.

Again we will concentrate initially on the footwork needed to make each move work, moving on to paired drills and maybe sparring.

Thursday 23rd Hither Green class, OLF gym, Friday Sutton

Last night: longsword: inversion throws, rushing in from the parter and inverting your opponent, concentrating on the pivot structure covering the entry and NOT lifting with the back. Also showing them the sun.
Please note there is no Sutton class this evening. All back to normal next week.

Longsword: more work on the parter, all the counters, footwork to begin with and on to partnered drills.
Sword and Buckler: more work with crutch, again footwork to start, placing the foot according to the dictates of the situation.

Tuesday Beckenham class sword and buckler/rapier.

Sword and buckler: entering in crutch: we will be looking at the footwork, initiating a pause for judgement and entering against varied responses, as we have in other classes we will be training with rattan and no shield to get the formative structure correct. Also we will be reviewing some of the rapier work of the last couple of weeks.

Thursday 16th Hither Green class, OLF gym Friday Sutton

                      In the picture: this week's cutting diagrams are Dirk, Dave and Karin.

Longsword, working the Duplier, constant cutting, with a change through and a cut to the elbow, also working on using the hips to power the cut. As you can see from the pics, tonight we also drew on one set of students (and me) to help with cutting paths.

Continuing with last weeks work:
Rapier: Subjection to the inside to completion, entering within the angles to deliver an estocade, a grip from pressure re established.
Counters to a cut beneath the sword.
Longsword: more on the parter, further explanation of the effect of angles on pressure and reaction.
A counter to a forward and rising parry, to a reversed parry, and a lifting parry.

Also to begin with, the dreaded footwork.

Rapier: entry against the posture of the straight line, against alive, dead and dead changing to live sentiments, also two counters to a cut beneath and estocade. Longsword: parter: turning to threaten the face, the breast and a cut beneath. Duplier an a cut to the elbow.

Wednesday and Thursday: longsword; guards and cutting transitions. Parting strike and reaction to three pressures, a turn, a wind and a hand pressing. Sparring.

Monday and Tuesday classes commencing 6th June

Monday and Tuesday: Sword and Buckler: entries against 1st ward; half shield and enter, half and left arm grapple, half and tread through.
Rapier: inside subjection a n entry with estocade, a counter to a cut under and estocade, the proper subjection and maybe a grip. Longsword: duplieren, mutieren and an elbow cut.

Night of a thousand cuts; well hopefully more, zornhaus and nothing but zornhaus, heavy blades tonight and lots of counter cutting. That and of course the Bulgarian bag.

Continuing Monday and Tuesday’s work with the rapier,countering inmrocades and estocades inside and outside the arm against the subjection. As with the other classes this week it will be fairly free form in order to establish sentiment before we continue to more clinical work, also longsword vs rapier work.
